hello all.

i have heard that CATIA is a very precise tool to model 3D geometry.

is it a kind of CNC software to control mechanical production or is it a «standard» software?
is it based on polymodelling or NURBS, or even something new?
is it stable also with boolean functions (working on with shells)?

what does CATIA cost?

Daddault's CATIA is very high end, for designing cars and such. Very expensive, and really built for 'digital product definition and simulation'. They also produce SolidWorks

www.3ds.com/products-s.../overview/

PURE does not show as supporting CATIA, just RenderDrive.

Solid Works and Solid Edge are pretty good, too. I use a program built on the same core as CATIA, the Spatial core, with the Concepts Unlimited modeler.

CU is getared towards conceptual modeling, and is not constraint driven.

I export the solids as IGES, STL or DWG, and bring it into max for lights/materials/rendering.
